Croke Park is delighted to be one of the finalists in the Environmental Sustainability Category of the SFA Small Business Awards.

In advance of the awards on 3rd March, SFA will host a Small Business Showcase on 10th February featuring 38 finalist companies in the National Small Business Awards 2011.

As a showcase of positivity this event will highlight the entrepreneurship, innovation and achievements of small enterprises in Ireland.

Croke Parks environmental sustainability journey began in 2008 with a goal to become carbon neutral and reduce our environmental impact and costs. This was achieved in 2009 and since then sustainability objectives are top of the stadiums agenda.  ISO 14001 certification was achieved in 2009 and in 2010 Croke Park become the first stadium in the world to be BS8901 certified for sustainable event management systems.

Key operational achievements in Croke Park’s Environmental Sustainability initiatives include:

  • Reduction of waste to landfill by 53%
  • Move to sustainability energy sources
  • Installation of a Building Management System (BMS) and Environmental Monitoring System (EMS). 
  • Installation of PIR’s (passive infrared sensors) and energy efficient heating systems
  • Installation of solenoid values to reduce water consumption
  • Controls on purchasing and procurement
  • Complying with all environmental legislation
  • Setting environmental goals and continuously monitoring performance
