Croke Park Compost Proves a Winner

15th May 2013

We had three extremely busy days last week with the introduction of our pilot project Croke Park Compost. In conjunction with our waste management contractor Thornton’s Recycling, we decided to maximise usage of compost generated at the stadium and offer it to local community, schools and residents.

In total 15 tonnes of Compost were handed out at the Stadium from Thursday 9th- Saturday 11th May, in addition to this, local community gardens and schools received  deliveries of compost for their springtime gardening and planting projects.

During 2012 the Stadium launched its most recent Sustainability project, Greener. On and off the pitch initiative to follow on from Cúl Green.  Greener. On and off the pitch focuses on key annual objectives such as:

- Reduction in energy consumption,

- Increasing recycling at the stadium,

- Community engagement

In line with our 2013 objectives which include achieving an 80% recycling rate, Croke Park Compost is another of the Stadium’s sustainability initiatives to assist in making Croke Park Greener and to compliment the environmental and sustainability practices at the Stadium, which include ISO 20121 Sustainable Event Management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management systems.

The Stadium will offer Croke Park Compost to the public again on Thursday 12th & Friday 13th September from 10am-12pm in the Outer Cusack Carpark.
