Join former GAA President and All-Ireland winner Nickey Brennan on a unique guided tour of Croke Park Stadium on the eve of the 2011 GAA All-Ireland Hurling Final.

Nickey Brennan’s illustrious hurling career started in Kilkenny’s famous hurling academy of St. Kieran’s in the late 1960s.  Here, he won an All-Ireland medal with the senior team in 1971.

In the early 1970s, Nickey first came to prominence as a member of the Kilkenny minor hurling team  winning a Leinster minor title in 1971.  Three years later he won a Leinster U-21 title and went on to be part of an All-Ireland winning team that defeated Waterford.   1974 was a hugely successful year for Nickey, as he also won his first Leinster and All-Ireland senior titles with the Cats.  Over the course of his inter-county hurling career with Kilkenny, NIckey won three Leinster senior hurling titles (1974, 1975, 1978) and five All-Ireland senior titles (1974, 1975, 1979, 1982, 1983).

On retirement from hurling Brennan became involved in GAA management and administration. In 1990, he managed the Kilkenny U-21 hurlers to All-Ireland success over Tipperary.  In 1991, he commenced a four-year term as Chairman of the Kilkenny County Board.  In 1995, he succeeded Ollie Walsh as manager of the Kilkenny senior hurling team.

In 2002, Nickey was elected Chairman of the Leinster Council prior to being elected to serve as President of the GAA for the three year period from April 2006 to April 2009. He succeeded Se├ín Kelly after he was elected at the GAA’s Annual Congress in Croke Park on April 16th 2005.  Interestingly Brennan was the first GAA President to be elected in Croke Park. His term of office coincided with the temporary facilitation of both rugby and soccer in Croke Park, while Lansdowne Road was being re developed.
