The GAA Archive
The GAA Archive, a department of the GAA Museum, was formed in 2007. The GAA Archive is committed to fostering and promoting a culture of research and enquiry into the rich history of the GAA, its members and the contribution made by the Association to the social, political and cultural life of Ireland.
The mission of the GAA Archive is to identify and preserve collections of archives, papers and manuscripts that record the values, culture and history of the Association, Gaelic Games and individuals who have contributed to the Association.
The core function of the GAA Archive is the curatorship of the historical records and archives of the Association, and of those collections of private individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Association. These documents are acquired and preserved to help document the history of the Association, both in Ireland and abroad.
“Father Hamilton (Clare) moved: “That the Central Council be instructed to take steps for the preservation and safe
custody of important documents, letters and records of the Association…they would provide encouragement and
inspiration in a time when they might well be wanted yet”
