Exhibitions
The GAA Museum hosts a range of temporary exhibitions and added a new exhibition space on the museum's ground floor for these as part of the 2010 redevelopment.
On Thursday 17th June 2011, the GAA Museum launched a new exhibition to honour the late Dermot Earley, former Roscommon footballer and Chief-of-Staff of the Irish Defence Forces. Dermot Earley - Leader & Legend celebrates Dermot's life and features souvenirs from his career as a hugely successful gaelic footballer, playing for both Roscommon and Connacht, and from his distinguished military career in the Irish Defence Forces. The Croke Park Timeline was launched in June 2009. Starting in 1864, the timeline takes museum visitors on a visual journey through the significant events and milestones of the stadium’s rich history.
Previous exhibitions include a photographic exhibition entitled Celebrating 30 Years of Irish Sport which featured 150 iconic moments in Irish sport over the last 30 years. The exhibition My GAA Hero was the result of a partnership between the GAAMuseum and a local school and ran from June 2010 until March 2011.
In 2010, the GAA Museum hosted Fighting Irishmen - Celebrating Celtic Prizefighters 1820 to present. This exhibition, organised by the Irish Arts Centre, NYC under the direction of Jim Houlihan, told the story of Irish emigration through the sport of boxing.
