Bord Gáis Energy All-Ireland Legends Tour with Willie Joe Padden
- 21st September 2013
The hugely popular Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour Series draws to a close for another year as former Mayo player, Willie Joe Padden, leads a tour of Croke Park Stadium on the eve of the GAA Football All-Ireland Championship Final on Saturday 21st September.
The Bord Gáis Energy All-Ireland Legends Tour with Willie Joe Padden is now sold out.
This unique guided tour is a must for Mayo supporters in Dublin on the weekend of the All-Ireland final and the county’s attempt to bridge a gap of over 60 years in bringing the Sam Maguire to Mayo.
The name Willie Joe Padden is synonymous with Mayo football. The two-time All Star enjoyed a long senior inter-county career with Mayo and was renowned for his skill, stamina and his high-fielding ability. In 1977, then aged 18, he wore the green and red jersey at minor, under-21 and senior levels, captaining the Mayo minors to a Connacht title.
The 1980s was one of the most successful periods for Mayo football and Padden formed part of the backbone of the team. In that decade they won four Connacht titles and became the first Mayo team to reach an All-Ireland final in 38 years, but it was not to be their day as Cork got the better of them by three points in the decider.
With his club, Belmullet, he won a county league medal and two Gaeltacht medals. In August 2013, Willie Joe was inducted into the Kick Fada Hall of Fame.
